My Top 10 John Williams Songs

Hey there, folks! First off, I’d like to apologize for all of us here at the MediaFile for our lengthy absence! Real life happens, and sometimes it happens too hard.

Well, I’m here to break the silence and see if I can’t get the old bellows going again!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about movie scores and how they can help make a movie even more than it already is. You can have great acting, special effects, a good script, a legendary director…but if your score isn’t up to snuff, people will notice.

The most celebrated composer for films in the last 50 years has got to be John Williams. He’s been composing for projects since 1956 when he was only 24. People think of him when it comes to Star Wars, but he’s done MUCH more in his career than those iconic scores!

And what a show it was!  Today we discovered ‘Nigga Turtles: Episode 1,’ we talk about the upcoming Spanish-language remake of ‘Breaking Bad’ called ‘Metastasis.’ and we asked Patrick “What Does the Fox Say?”

We also discuss whether or not it’s worth taking the risk of alienating part of your audience to explore potentially contentious and/or politically-charged topics.  It’s a great talk!  If you’ve been waiting to check out this show – this is the one you need to listen to!

The MediaFiles Podcast, Episode 008 – After GISHWHES

Churros Vs. Lightsaber! Who wins?!

Churros Vs. Lightsaber! Who wins?!

So, The MediaFile has been very, very quite the past week or so.  That is because we have been participating in GISHWHES!  It was an intense, week-long, photo/video/randomactofkindness/worldrecordshattering experience!

It was amazing!  Truly amazing!  We had a great deal of fun!

Some pictures from the experience.

Some of the videos we made, too!

This week’s podcast is a few of us, mere moments after submissions closed for the week, telling some of the tales of abnosome (new word!) feats we accomplished!  There are no edits, and it may not make sense, but I hope it captures the feeling!

New Short Story

So, I’ve decided to launch a new portion of the site!  It’s called ‘Fiction!’  If you can come up with a better name, please make a suggestion, and I’ll probably change it!  I’m hoping that all of the MediaFiles will get a chance to contribute here.  Short fiction, poetry, serials…  Whatever we come up with, here’s a space where we’ll be sharing our work and looking for feedback.

My first piece is a short (mini) story called Just Over the Next Rise.  Please give it a read.  This is my first attempt at writing fiction as an adult.  It’s something I’ve always meant to do, but that white, blank page is always far too intimidating!  It’s probably not very good, and I certainly haven’t developed a voice or a style yet.  But it is a story!  It does have meaning!  Actually, I’m quite proud of it, though I do recognize that there’s nowhere to go but up!

Let me know what you think!

Shooting Fireworks

This past weekend was Independence Day weekend here in the United States.  It’s the day we celebrate our nation’s declaration of freedom with displays of fireworks!  Fireworks can be beautiful, and until this year, I had never tried to take photographs of them before.  I like the results I got!  Check out a selected gallery on imgur.

If you’re interested in how I got these shots, or you’re new to photography and want some hints on how to control your camera, keep reading: Continue reading
